Relining: for a better fit
Relining is designed to stabilize an ill-fitting prosthesis. To achieve this, acrylic is added to the inside of the base. This fills the gap that may have opened up between the appliance and the gum as a result of material wear or shrinkage of the gingival and bone tissues. Performed in one appointment, this operation does not change the appearance of the prosthesis, but helps to adapt it to the particularities of the mouth.
Relining: to improve the durability of the prosthesis
Relining, on the other hand, is an operation in which the denturist replaces all the pink acrylic that makes up the "base" of the prosthesis, without replacing the teeth. It's a way of adapting the appliance to the changing physiognomy of the mouth. It is used when, due to jawbone resorption that progresses over time, the denture no longer fits properly on the gum. Relining can also be carried out when the acrylic has faded and lost its pink hue. This prolongs the life of the denture, while restoring its original comfort and appearance.
