Dental Implants
There are several possible solutions for replacing missing teeth. Among them are dental implants. These are characterized by their strength, durability and versatility, since they can support a variable number of replacement teeth. To benefit from their many advantages, however, a process lasting several months is required. At the Centre dentaire Taschereau in Brossard, we'll accompany and guide you through the required procedures.
What is a dental implant?
Implants are small titanium screws inserted into the jawbone during high-precision surgery. Once the healing process is complete, an abutment is fitted to which a restoration (crown or bridge) or prosthesis (full or partial) can be attached. Implants then act as artificial roots for one or more replacement teeth. They hold them in place in a stable, solid and durable manner. Metal rods also have the advantage of stimulating the jawbone, preventing it from losing mass and volume.
A cost-effective solution thanks to osseointegration
Implants derive most of their benefits from a phenomenon known as osseointegration. During this process, which occurs during the healing period, the implant fuses with the bone. This is what enables it to be so strong, and to hold a replacement tooth or teeth with great stability. Implants normally remain in place permanently. Should the prosthesis, crown or bridge attached to it break, there's no need to go through the implant process again. Simply repair or replace the restoration.
Dental implants: a procedure in just a few steps
Planning
first of all, the feasibility of the procedure must be checked using scans (CBCT) and X-rays of the mouth. These are also used to model and fabricate the chosen crown, bridge or prosthesis;

Surgery
implants are inserted through small incisions made directly in the gum and bone, then the surgical site(s) are closed with sutures;

The restoration or prosthesis
this is first chosen according to need. It is then designed by the dentist in collaboration with the denturist, who fabricates it during the healing period. At the end of the process, the part is adjusted and fixed to the abutments previously installed on the implants.
Dental implants: personalized support
The team at the Centre dentaire Taschereau in Brossard can assess the feasibility of implant placement and help you choose, design and install an implant-supported restoration or prosthesis. During the healing period, we'll take the time to design and fabricate the selected replacement tooth or teeth in our laboratory. When the time is right, we'll fit and install them in the clinic.
Bone grafting: sometimes a necessary step
In this pre-implant procedure, the bone is incised and a graft (taken from the patient or from an external source) is applied. These are then covered with a synthetic membrane to aid healing. During the healing process, the graft integrates and stimulates bone production, enabling the bone to regain the necessary mass and volume. The necessary steps can then be taken so that you can benefit from this advantageous tooth replacement option!
