These images can then be zoomed or enlarged to make certain areas of the oral cavity more visible. The dentist uses the images produced by the intraoral camera for diagnostic purposes, as they enable him or her to better visualize oral structures. It provides a clear, detailed view of the various structures of the mouth and face: bones, joints, blood vessels, tissues and so on. These 3D photos can be viewed as they are, or processed by various software programs. This helps the dentist to observe all oral tissues and structures, even those otherwise invisible. This enables him or her to refine diagnoses or identify problems that would otherwise go unnoticed. What's more, images are projected directly onto a luminous screen, without the need to develop film as is the case with traditional X-rays.
